Program
Workshop tracks
Three hands-on workshop tracks that shape the day at BLOOM 2027. Every student moves through all three.
- 01
9:30 – 11:00 AM
Environmental Hot Topics
This track dives into the pressing environmental challenges facing northern Indiana and the broader Midwest. Sessions cover biodiversity, the environmental implications of data centers and AI, environmental law and policy, and student-led poster presentations. Students engage directly with researchers, policy professionals, and community advocates.
- 02
11:00 AM – 12:30 PM
Food for Thought
This track addresses the emotional, psychological, and cultural dimensions of environmental storytelling. Sessions cover climate grief and eco-anxiety, media literacy and fact-checking in the age of social media, and diversifying the environmental narrative through Indigenous and environmental literature perspectives.
- 03
1:30 – 3:00 PM
Pick Your Medium
Students choose the storytelling medium they want to develop: student-led short film production, photojournalism, or traditional written journalism. Each session is led by a working journalist or Youth Environmental Press Team leader, giving students hands-on training in the craft of their choice.
