Story Pitch & Publication
Pitching your story and getting published on YEPT.org and in the collaborative magazine.
Story Pitch and Publication is a dedicated session, not a workshop track. After working through the three research tracks, students close the day by developing a pitch and presenting it to journalists, IU faculty, and YEPT leaders. Strong pitches are matched with a post-conference mentor from ASIU or YEPT to refine the work for publication.
Published stories appear in the YEPT collaborative magazine and on YEPT.org as part of the 89 Percent Project, putting student journalism in front of a regional audience.
What to bring
How to prepare a pitch
Step 1
Identify a topic
Bring an environmental issue you care about in your community. It can be local, statewide, or regional.
Step 2
Pick a medium
Decide whether your story works best as a written article, photo essay, or short film. Workshops give you a draft to build on.
Step 3
Present your pitch
Share your story idea with judges. Selected students are matched with a mentor to publish on YEPT.org.
